I am feeling grateful!
I am generally grateful for the coaching community I am in (ICC) because I have been enjoying continuing eduction in how to coach within a wonderful community of like minded people. Today I am grateful for a different reason.
As some of you know, I have been doing a weekly challenge Live on Facebook that I am calling ‘Cowardly to Courageous’. It is about facing my fears, a lot of which are irrational and stem from things I heard as a child. Here are my challenges so far:
1st week – I jumped from a rock into the sea
2nd week – I climbed a tree
3rd week – I tried to cover my arms with insects (but they ran away)
4th week – I danced to a song
5th week – I read out my poetry without preparation
6th week – I got a tattoo saying “Courage”
This morning I spoke to a lady from my church who was wearing a T-shirt with positive words on it. So I showed her my tattoo. She immediately said “My body belongs to the Lord.”
My first thought was “Doesn’t courage come from God? Why would having a tattoo mean that my body doesn’t belong to God?”
My second thought was that she was certainly not coming from a place of non-judgement. Even though she professes to believe in Christianity, which is meant to be all about love, accepting people as they are, and not judging them, she was judging me.
My third thought was the ICC rule that states “We come empty” (it refers to not having preprepared answers or techniques) includes or presupposes a lack of judgement.
So that is why I am grateful for the ICC today. And I have posted this within the FB page of the community. That’s because it is so important to show gratitude to people when they support us.
Who are you grateful for? And how will you tell them?
