How important is gut health?

How Important is gut health?

It is hugely important! Not only to our physical health but also to our mental health. One of the main reasons is that the microbes in our gut are responsible for producing hormones that greatly affect us. And this in turn affects our relationships!!

The thing that most people don’t know is that even if you live a healthy lifestyle by exercising and eating good food, if your gut is not healthy to start with, you will be losing nutrients.

If you regularly suffer from indigestion, diarrhoea or constipation, this is a good indication that your gut needs some attention.

So how can you improve your gut health?

In a nutshell by eating a varied diet. The easiest way to ensure this is to eat the rainbow. The more you vary your vegetables, fruit and pulses, the higher chance of eating the correct balance of vitamins and minerals.

Secondly, we should all try to eat food in its most natural form. Once a food is processed, it may contain sugar, high fructose corn syrup, too much salt, as well as chemicals for preserving it and making it look good. Some of these additives can cause allergic reactions – both physical and behavioural.

Recently I gave up gluten and noticed a dramatic difference to my gut health. All the bloating and daily upset stomach I used to have are things of the past. And I keep hearing more and more people talking about how they changed their health by changing their gut health.
