It only takes 5 minutes to make a change…

You might think that to bring about change it is necessary to commit large chunks of time. No doubt you have heard that massive change comes from massive action.
But I honestly find that a mere 5 minutes of meditating in nature really can bring peace for the day.
Or if I feel sad or am lacking in motivation, literally only 5 minutes of dancing always makes me feel joyful and full of energy.
Whenever I am confused about something it only takes 5 minutes of journaling to make such a difference in clarity of thought.
So it makes sense that these 3 things that are scheduled into my Google Calendar.
And yet I have not always been doing these 3 things every day without fail. Urgent tasks seemed to pop up and take priority. There was always an email that needed dealing with now. Or someone who needed to talk first thing in the morning.
Before I know it a whole week would go by without me doing my morning routine.
I always thought I had to do 20-30 minutes of each activity for them to really make a difference. But I was wrong. The absolute bare minimum of 5 minutes actually works to transform the quality of my day.
So nowadays, I am committed to these 3 morning practices. It is a commitment I make to myself. And it is a commitment I make to you. Because if I show up to a call or any kind of communication, without having done my morning routine, it is not fair on you, my reader and my coachee.
Why not commit to take 5 minute changes in your daily routine?
My challenge to you is to ask you to schedule into your day the bare minimum of 5 mins of meditation, 5 minutes of exercise and 5 minutes of journaling and see what a difference it makes. And since this principle works for many categories in life, I wonder what else you can do for only 5 minutes a day?
