Do you believe you can overcome overwhelm? First of all how do we define overwhelm? Overwhelm is an emotional state that can have a wide variety of different causes.
Maybe you’ve got too much to do. That can certainly feel overwhelming. Or maybe you’ve got personal issues or external things that keep going wrong. You feel like you don’t have any control.
When we feel like we don’t have control over the situation we burn out as a result. So some people become control freaks because it helps them to feel less overwhelmed.
Whatever the reason for the overwhelm, it gives you the feeling that you just don’t know where to start to deal with it. But that’s just a feeling albeit a very strong one. In other words it’s subjective not objective.
Basically you don’t know which way to turn and you just can’t focus. Because you’re not just stressed, you’re actually paralyzed.
What’s happening in your body is you’ve got an increase in cortisol, the stress hormone, and you’ve got a decrease in serotonin which acts as feel good hormone.
If you’re overwhelmed you think about all the little details of each situation and it feels like you’re drowning. It might feel like you have a big ball of strong that it tangled and you can’t even find the end to untangle it.
This happens when you give the same importance to everything and you don’t prioritize. We want to do everything right now and get everything perfect. But realistically things don’t have to be perfect, and you don’t have to do everything right now.

What would it feel like for you? For most people it would give them a sense of freedom to do what they want to do. It would give them peace and even joy.
